Benvenuti, il mio nome è Mantova. Leggenda narra che io sia stata fondata da un’indovina greca di nome Manto, fuggita dalla città di Tebe e giunta sulle rive del fiume Mincio per generarmi. Leggenda affascinante che si scontra con la storia. Le mie origini, infatti, vengono ricondotte alle popolazioni etrusche, ma il mio periodo più florido è legato alla dinastia dei Gonzaga, i Signori di Mantova. Quanti ricordi e quante testimonianze sono giunte fino ad oggi. Come il celebre “Mantua me genuit” legato a Virgilio, il sommo poeta che ha interpretato alla perfezione la mia identità.
Questo è un anno di festa non solo per me, ma per tutti i mantovani. Oggi rinasco per un evento unico: Mantova Capitale Italiana della Cultura 2016.
Per l’occasione vi dono i miei tesori più affascinanti: Palazzo Ducale, la Camera Picta dipinta da Andrea Mantegna, Palazzo Te di Giulio Romano, la Basilica di Sant’Andrea di Leon Battista Alberti, la Casa del Mantegna, il Teatro Scientifico del Bibiena e molti altri. Anche la natura gioca un ruolo determinante nella mia personalità. Sono una città bagnata da tre laghi, Superiore, Di Mezzo e Inferiore, che possono essere esplorati con imbarcazioni e motonavi. E poi vanto una tradizione di cucina con prelibatezze uniche da gustare. Ecco la mia idea di cultura tra storia, arte, letteratura, musica e natura. Questi i valori che metterò a disposizione di tutti i visitatori per rendere questo 2016 davvero speciale.

Welcome, my name is Mantova. Legend has it that I have been founded by Greek soothsayer named Manto, he fled from the city of Thebes and arrived on the banks of the river Mincio to generarmi. fascinating legend that clashes with the story. My native country, in fact, are traced to the Etruscan people, but my most prosperous period is linked to the Gonzaga dynasty, the Lords of Mantua. This is a year of celebration not only for me but for all Mantua. Today reborn for a unique event: Mantova Italian Capital of Culture 2016.
For the occasion, they give you my most fascinating treasures: Palazzo Ducale, the Bridal Chamber painted by Andrea Mantegna, Giulio Romano's Palazzo Te, the basilica of Sant'Andrea of Leon Battista Alberti, the Mantegna's house, the Teatro Scientifico Bibiena and many others. Nature also plays a decisive role in my personality. I am a city bathed by three lakes, Superior, Di Mezzo and Inferior, which can be explored by boat and motorboats. And then it boasts a tradition of cooking with unique delicacies to savor. Here's my idea of culture history, art, literature, music and nature. These are the values that will put at the disposal of all visitors in 2016 to make this very special.
