Banca del Latte Materno
Inaugurata in data odierna al Policlinico, una Banca del Latte Materno, per dare una speranza in più ai bimbi prematuri e realizzata grazie al contributo di Esselunga e dei suoi clienti, permetterà di ridurre infezioni e altre patologie, e affiancherà la Terapia Intensiva Neonatale della Clinica Mangiagalli, la più grande d'Italia.
Ci sono bambini che nascono più sfortunati di altri, e che vengono al mondo troppo presto. Sono i bimbi prematuri: ogni anno in Italia se ne contano circa 35mila di cui oltre 5mila nati con un peso inferiore a 1,5 kg, meno della metà di un bimbo nato a termine. A causa del parto prematuro le loro mamme non hanno ancora potuto produrre il latte, indispensabile non solo come nutriente ma anche come una prima, importantissima difesa immunitaria. Mangiagalli della Fondazione Ca' Granda Policlinico di Milano: un servizio che raccoglie il latte di altre mamme per nutrire da subito i piccoli prematuri, e dare loro tutti i vantaggi di questo importante alimento. 'Nutrici' è stata realizzata grazie al contributo di Esselunga e dei suoi clienti che, attraverso una campagna di sensibilizzazione da ottobre 2014 a ottobre 2015, ha coinvolto tutti i negozi del gruppo e ha permesso a Esselunga di donare 696.440 euro a favore della costruzione della Banca del Latte Umano Donato.
'Nutrici' affianca la Terapia Intensiva Neonatale del Policlinico, che è la più grande d'Italia e tra le prime quattro più importanti d'Europa: ogni anno gestisce la nascita e le cure per circa 1.000 neonati con problemi, di cui 150 bimbi prematuri sotto 1,5 kg di peso. Inoltre, la Clinica Mangiagalli è il principale punto nascita d'Italia con i suoi oltre 6.500 nati l'anno: qui vengono al mondo 18 bimbi al giorno, quasi uno all'ora, e ogni nascita a termine rappresenta una speranza in più per un bimbo prematuro, se la neo-mamma sceglie di donare un po' del suo latte. "I bimbi che nascono fortemente pre-termine - spiega Fabio Mosca, direttore della Terapia Intensiva Neonatale e della Neonatologia del Policlinico - sono particolarmente delicati, e il latte materno donato riduce l'incidenza delle infezioni ma anche di patologie intestinali che possono essere molto gravi.
Per questo è molto importante avere una Banca del Latte Umano Donato: alle mamme che vogliono partecipare per questa raccolta viene fornito un tiralatte e tutto il materiale necessario, con la garanzia, grazie a Human Milk Link, del ritiro a domicilio e la consegna sicura alla Banca". Una volta arrivato in Policlinico, il latte materno donato viene pastorizzato, viene analizzato per misurarne le proprietà nutritive (in termini di carboidrati, proteine e lipidi) e viene conservato in speciali freezer, capaci in totale di raccogliere oltre mille litri di latte. Ogni fase è altamente controllata, per garantire sicurezza e qualità, e ogni passaggio è registrato grazie a un sistema di tracciamento. "Una volta pronto - aggiunge Mosca - il latte può essere distribuito, in modo completamente gratuito, ai neonati che ne avessero la necessità", compresi quelli nati a termine ma che hanno gravi intolleranze o patologie particolari, oppure quelli le cui mamme non avessero prodotto latte a sufficienza. "Abbiamo già condiviso percorsi e procedure con le altre banche sul territorio - prosegue il neonatologo - il nostro obiettivo non è metterci in concorrenza, ma anzi fare squadra per lavorare insieme e al meglio, a tutto vantaggio dei nostri piccoli pazienti, allargando in futuro anche agli altri ospedali la possibilità di usufruire di questa opportunità".
E' importante sottolineare, conclude l'esperto, "che non c'è nessuna controindicazione alla donazione del latte: la quota che viene donata non viene tolta al proprio bambino ma è latte in più, che andrebbe sprecato e che invece se viene raccolto permette di salvare delle vite. Per questo invitiamo tutte le neo-mamme alla donazione, perché è un atto di altruismo che permetterà anche ai bimbi nati prematuri di avere tutti i vantaggi del latte materno". collaborazione con l'Associazione Italiana per lo Studio e la Tutela della Maternità ad Alto Rischio (Aistmar Onlus).
La Banca fa parte dell'Associazione Italiana Banche del Latte Umano Donato (AIBLUD Onlus, nata a Milano nel 2005 e che oggi conta sul territorio nazionale 33 strutture dedicate alla raccolta del latte materno.
